About Smartspaces.org

FAQ

Where can I find a Smartspace?
The first Smartspace was launched in May, 2008 in Manhattan, and there are many more on the way. Plans for future growth include expansion to additional cities nationally and even internationally, using windows as conduits for cross-cultural expression.

How does Smartspaces work?
Smartspaces.org is the hub at the center of several networks — artists, curators, and owners. We connect each empty space with a different curator to select the art. This distributed model for curating and sourcing space ensures flexibility, diversity, and responsiveness throughout the process. Our operational priorities are quality and efficiency — of information, communication, and resources.

Does Smartspaces sell art?
No. Smartspaces simply provides exposure and a conduit between artists and potential buyers. Art is clearly labeled and anyone interested in purchasing art can find artist contact information at Smartspaces.org.

Does it cost anything?
No. Smartspaces is free for artists and owners.

How is Smartspaces funded?
Smartspaces.org is a nonprofit organization funded by corporate sponsors, grants and private donations. We are a fiscally sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts.

How can I get involved?
There are many ways to participate in Smartspaces — please get in touch! We take a recommendation-based approach to growing our network. Participating artists and curators, in turn, bring more artists and curators on board. We invite all interested artists and curators to join our community of Friends.
