Where do you draw the line between art and commerce? Shai Rao of Formavision stirred things up with this question at our latest Show & Tell after a stellar lineup of artists and curators , including Conrad Ventur (his work + TheCrane.tv), Allison Berkoy, Josh Melnick, and Erik Hagerman.
We also had updates on Michelle Vaughan's Sea Warriors (pirates!), a preview of Mutiny on the Cutty Sark (a proposal from Pete Beeman and Heidi Cody — more pirates!) and Manon Slome's No Longer Empty project, a variation on the our theme that invites artists and the public inside empty spaces. (SmartSpaces presents work in windows only, i.e. everything can be viewed from the sidewalk.) Curator Andrea Hill wrapped it up with a preview of An Evening of Play coming up at MC Gallery July 17th.
And where do they draw the line? Depends who you ask, and the answers ranged widely. Abundant thanks to everyone who came out and participated — we're already looking forward to next time!
SmartSpaces Show & Tell is an ongoing series of events for people in our community to show work, share ideas, get inspired — and debate. This informal, interactive forum will also provide a venue for reviewing proposals as we grow.
