Smartspaces.org Selected by NYFA for Fiscal Sponsorship
In late August 2007, Smartspaces.org was accepted into the New York Foundation for the Arts’ Fiscal Sponsorship program. Fiscal Sponsorship provides individual artists, artists’ collaborative projects, and emerging arts organizations in all disciplines with the ability to apply for funding and other resources usually available only to organizations with 501c(3)nonprofit status.
Individual artists and emerging organizations face genuine obstacles when seeking the funding necessary to continue and complete their work. Often they are hindered by the legal status of the project, as most foundations or corporate funders restrict grants to tax-exempt organizations. Similarly, potential individual donors need the tax incentive of a charitable contribution before they will support an arts project. NYFA offers qualified artist projects fiscal sponsorship – a mechanism widely used by the nonprofit sector – to overcome these obstacles and meet the needs of individual artists and emerging organizations pursuing nonprofit goals.
NYFA’s Fiscal Sponsorship program is one of the largest programs of its kind in the U.S. and currently sponsors more than 368 Artists’ Projects and 52 Emerging Organizations.
